A sustained wind of 77 mph (124 km/h) and a gust of 100 mph (161 km/h) was recently reported at a WeatherFlow station at Egmont Channel. DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ———————- At 800 PM EDT (0000 UTC), the center of Hurricane Milton was located near latitude 27.2 North, longitude 82.8 West. Milton is moving toward the east-northeast near 15 mph (24 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue through Thursday, followed by a turn toward the east on Friday. On the forecast track, the center of Milton will make landfall just south of the Tampa Bay region within the next hour or two, and then move across the central part of the Florida peninsula overnight, and emerge off the east coast of Florida on Thursday.
Maximum sustained winds are near 120 mph (195 km/h) with higher gusts. Milton is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Little change in strength is likely until landfall, and Milton is expected to remain a hurricane while it moves across central Florida through Thursday. The system is forecast to weaken over the western Atlantic and become extratropical by Thursday night.
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 255 miles (405 km). A sustained wind of 54 mph (87 km/h) and a gust of 96 mph (154 km/h) was recently reported at the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport. A C-MAN Station in Venice, Florida recently reported a sustained wind of 71 mph (115 km/h) with a gust to 90 mph (145 km/h).
The minimum central pressure estimated from Hurricane Hunter aircraft observations is 954 mb (28.17 inches).

The Ascenders (5-1) handed the Indians (6-1) their first loss of the year 21-16 in a bout that saw both defenses shine.
IMG (ranked No. 1 in the USA Today Florida Network Super 25) wasted no time and drew first blood on their first play from scrimmage, and the game looked primed for yet another shootout at the TeePee when Eric McFarland reeled in a lateral pass from SMU commit Ty Hawkins, and then connected with Kansas State commit Adonis Moise for an 80-yard touchdown.
The trick play that caught Venice flat-footed was a huge boost for the Ascenders in a game that ended up being decided by one score.

The Indians (ranked No. 4 in the USA Today Florida Network Super 25) responded in a much different fashion, chewing up seven minutes and capping off their 16-play opening drive with a 4-yard touchdown run by Winston Watkins Jr.
“We knew we could play with them, that was never a doubt in our mind that we could play with them,” said head coach John Peacock. “Overcoming penalties is a different thing. We let it slip away. We’ve been flirting with that all year, and it finally came back to bite us tonight.”
The Ascenders then scored two unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter, starting with Michigan commit Donovan Johnson’s 7-yard touchdown rush. After IMG forced a turnover on downs, they capitalized with one of their few big plays of the night with a 62-yard touchdown pass from Hawkins to Missouri commit Donovan Olugbode that extended the lead to 21-7.

The Ascender defense rose up one more time before the half with Ohio State commit London Merritt getting a sack on a critical third down that forced Venice to settle for a 44-yard field goal.
IMG kept the pressure up at the start of the third quarter, and AJ Marks reeled in an interception on Venice’s first drive of the half. Venice forced a fumble a few plays later and got the ball back, but couldn’t capitalize on the turnover.
Nine minutes later, the Indians marched down to the red zone and sat at the 1-yard line on fourth down. They handed the ball off to Watkins, but IMG’s Jake Kreul waltzed off the edge untouched and brought him down for a loss and turnover on downs.
“It was a design play to go up the middle and they brought someone off the edge and we didn’t pick it up,” Peacock said. “He got underneath us which caused Winnie to bounce it. The play call was good, we pick up that guy off the edge and we score.”
Venice had another opportunity after a 42-yard pass from Jayce Nixon to Malakai Corbett, and cashed in with a 1-yard keeper from Nixon that closed the gap to 21-16 with 11 minutes to play.
That would be the last score of the night, however, and the IMG defense held strong.
Here are takeaways from IMG’s win over Venice at the TeePee.
Defense wins championships, and Venice’s held firm
It’s no secret that IMG has the most loaded offense in the state, and when the Indians have played offenses of similar caliber, the game would devolve into a shootout.
But not Friday night. The Indians kept themselves in the mix all night on the back of their defense. They allowed just two plays that went for more than 20 yards, and both resulted in touchdowns. IMG’s 21 points marked their lowest scoring night of the season.
With IMG moving the chains on a drive riddled with penalties on both sides, the Ascenders were staring at a third-and-17 near the Indian 40-yard line. Olugbode streaked up the middle and created separation, but Layne Kisovic closed the gap and broke the pass up in the end zone for Venice’s biggest stop of the night.
“I knew the game would be different one we got a little pressure on them,” Peacock said. “They opened the game and scored a touchdown on a trick play on the first play of the game, so they hadn’t had any pressure on them since they got off the bus. Pressure bursts pipes, and we knew the game would change a little bit when we got pressure on them. We out-physicaled them, on offense for sure, so it is what it is.”
Missed opportunities came back to haunt the Indians
With the defense playing at such a high level, it was up to the offense to capitalize. Too often they sputtered in what could’ve been momentum-swinging drives, and the Ascenders' two big plays were enough to win. Penalties often hindered Venice on key drives.
First the sack at the end of the half on the IMG 23-yard line that resulted in a field goal, then the missed block that resulted in a turnover on downs instead of a touchdown at the end of the third quarter.
Then, and most notably, late in the fourth quarter after Venice had once again forced an IMG punt.
On what could’ve been the game-winning drive, the Indians reeled in three penalties that stymied any momentum they had pieced together with a stop.
The Indians punted, and IMG moved the sticks a few times before taking victory formation. After going 12-of-16 in the first half, Nixon finished the night 19-of-28 with around 190 passing yards and one rushing touchdown.
“We basically gave it away,” Peacock said. “Down here at the goal line, not punching in was huge. We had had a drive in the first half where we had a personal foul penalty that stopped the drive, that was also a big moment that I’m thinking of. Then the last drive, we had a chance to win it – they hadn’t stopped us all night, we’ve only stopped ourselves. So I thought we would go down and punch it in, find a way to do it, and we had three penalties that drive. Take the penalties out and Venice is celebrating, and not IMG.”
Big-time players make big-time plays in big-time games
It proved to be IMG’s stars who made the difference for the Ascenders. Hawkins went 4-of-5 in the air for 105 yards and one touchdown in the first half, with all four passes going to Olugbode.
Kreul, who holds over 40 offers, finished with a sack and a tackle for loss, both in clutch situations, and Marks (with offers from Tennessee, Penn State and Kansas) had the big-time interception to start the half. All while Miami linebacker commit Gavin Nix made sure only one Venice rush went for more than 10 yards.
Both offensive lines lived up to the billing
IMG’s offensive line gave Hawkins plenty of time in the pocket and didn’t allow a sack all night. For Venice, the Indian front held its own against the star-studded Ascender defensive front and set the table for Dorian Irving Jones to rush for nearly 100 yards on 28 touches.
